Ancient Beadwork
Hassocks & cushions
An absolutely unique category of beaded objects, found so far only in the tomb of Tutankhamun, is the hassocks, or small pillows. These artefacts are made of tiny beads, strung together into elements which were later combined. The composition and the technology of the hassocks are the most complex of Egyptian beadwork. These objects are the best examples of the complexity of the Amarna beadwork and the professionalism of its beaders. The manner in which the increasing and decreasing in the pattern took place and the affixation of new elements in the beaded structure creates an unsurpassed quality.
